When Santa Claus and the bright red fire truck come around the corner, the children become very excited. They politely queue up to receive their gifts under the cover of the outdoor shelter at the school. There is cake and juice for everyone. They sing songs for their friends from Kiwanis and enjoy a Christmas Pañada. Every child receives two fine gifts and a teddy bear. Thanks to all our friends at the Kiwanis Clubs of Homestead, Little Havana, Westchester and Key Biscayne for helping to make this another wonderful event for these young children! And special thanks to the staff at West Homestead Elementery School that provides such an outstanding program for the migrant students.
Download PDF Flyer for Migrant Students' Christmas Party Over the past 79 years, our Kiwanis Club in Coral Gables has worked to support programs that directly benefit children in our community and around the world. Every year, in cooperation with our friends in the Little Havana and Homestead Kiwanis Clubs, we plan and execute a special Christmas party for children in the migrant students program at West Homestead Elementary School. We carefully chose gifts for each child, then wrap them all and deliver them with Santa Claus on a Coral Gables fire truck. This effort involves two events: the fundraiser at Venetian Pool (December 11) and the Christmas party for the children (December 15) at the school. Here is a link to photos from past events: At the fund raising event at Venetian Pool, hosted by Robin and Robin Burr, we invite our friends in the community to enjoy an enchanting evening at the pool while benefiting this worthy cause. Food, drinks and entertainment provided by friends of Kiwanis and our sponsors.
